ANN ARBOR – For a limited time, Merit Network is offering a special promotion on its Merit Michigan ID service, waiving all one-time set-up fees. Through September 30, 2012, Members that are directly connected to Merit’s statewide network can sign up for Merit Michigan ID and pay no one-time fees for the value-added service. Participating organizations must provision service by October 31, 2012, and the offer does not include the Hosted Authentication (Shibboleth) Service and Merit Professional Services.
Merit Michigan ID was introduced in May at the 2012 Merit Member Conference. The service provides a framework based on federated identity that enables participating organizations to provide access to shared resources, applications, and content.
Merit Network believes in the value of community and often assists its Members with finding ways to collaborate and save money. Merit Michigan ID leverages the relationships that already exist within the Merit Community and enables Members to share applications and services. The Merit Michigan ID framework acts as a trusted resource, working with participating Members active directory/LDAP mechanisms to provide single sign on authentication across multiple applications and resources. The service enables authorized users at a participating organization to use applications and resources located at other participating organizations.
“Sharing services requires a relationship, a great network and shared authentication,” said Don Welch, president and CEO of Merit Network. “With Michigan ID, our members will be able to collaborate more easily.”
