October 27, 2010
Twice each year, the Internet2 community comes together for informal meetings and interactive discussions about new applications and advanced networking. At the upcoming Fall 2010 Internet2 Member Meeting, Merit Network’s Elwood Downing, Bob Stovall, and Leslie Williamson will be part of the program in Atlanta, Georgia.
On November 3, Downing and Stovall will present Obstacles, Challenges, & Opportunities of implementing NTIA/BTOP Project at 3 p.m. Merit’s REACH-3MC project was awarded federal funding in 2010 to build over 2,200 miles of fiber-optic network infrastructure in Michigan. This presentation will give an overview of the middle-mile project, the challenges of simultaneously building infrastructure in Michigan’s Lower and Upper Peninsulas, and the opportunities that better broadband will offer currently underserved areas of the state.
On November 3, Williamson will be part of a research and education network panel discussion, Identity and Cloud Services: Case Studies from State Networks, at 4:30 p.m. A growing number of research and education network providers are exploring adding identity and access infrastructure to their physical networks and enable them to provide cloud services. The panel discussion will provide a glimpse into what research and network providers are doing in the cloud and some of their experiences.
Both presentations will be webcast live by Internet2 and available later as video-on-demand.
