Merit Network CEO Supports National Broadband Plan Cybersecurity Recommendations

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Don Welch, president and CEO of Merit Network, Inc., announced his support for the Promoting Cybersecurity and Protecting Critical Infrastructure of the National Broadband Plan released by the Federal Communications Commission today. On October 2, 2009, Dr. Welch took part in the FCC’s Cyber Security Workshop as part of the development of this plan.

“I appreciate the opportunity to participate in the planning for this important national objective, and I support the cybersecurity plan as it stands today. It is a high level plan and the details could be difficult, but the principles expressed in the plan are very good,” stated Welch. He is particularly pleased with the recommendation to expand outage reporting requirements and the recommendation to create a voluntary cybersecurity certification program.
