A Summit on Collaboration & Resource Sharing

During the event, Merit President and CEO Joe Sawasky debuted the Merit Commons, a virtual social space created to facilitate communication and cooperation between Merit Members. Attendees learned how to use the space to share knowledge, skills and resources in collaboration with the rest of the research and education community.

“Yes, we support that” – Providing students with a home like experience on the campus housing network, Dale Klimmek and Tyler Sears, Saginaw Valley State University, and Ron Spencer, MOSS
ABSTRACT:

How Aruba ClearPass and Airgroup is used SVSU ResNet and how it allows users and residents to manage devices like gaming systems, smart TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, media players, printers or most any device for use on the campus wired and wireless networks. Users can connect these devices to the network and set up their own private network within the campus network and can share devices with friends on campus if desired.

The student user logs into ClearPass and gets access to a web registration portal. After registration, this restricts the use of this service to mobile devices logged onto the network under that user’s identity or selected users on the network.

Detail the steps SVSU has taken to support all devices are used to using at home and would like to keep using on campus network. We now can support device originally designed for the home network.

“Collaboration: Our Future. Our Challenge.”

ABSTRACT:

There is nothing more important to the future of education and, frankly, our world, than collaboration. It exponentially increases the odds of amazing things happening and is the key to addressing the world’s biggest challenges. But good collaboration is tough to achieve. Bringing people together and then igniting and nurturing a collaborative effort is a key test of leadership and workplace culture. The speaker will present collaboration as the imperative for the future of higher education and then present ideas for nurturing successful collaborations within and across organizations.
