Information is the great equalizer. Access to, and use of the internet has become an integral component of everyday life in the 21st century. Digital information has reshaped how individuals participate in nearly every dimension of society. It is imperative for communities to leverage broadband network access to eliminate the homework gap and for the benefit of education, socioeconomic equality, telemedicine, Smart Agriculture, public safety and economic development to maintain and grow quality of life for their citizens.

SUMMIT GOALS

The first annual Michigan Broadband Summit, as part of our educational series, aims to:

  • Provide an overview of the Moonshot Broadband Framework and Toolkit to help communities jump start their regional networks
  • Launch of Broadband Toolkit Framework
  • Share results from Citizen Scientist Data Collection
  • Share updates on crowdsourced connectivity data collection
  • Explain the financial models, funding sources and feasibility cases for community networks
  • Explore wired and wireless solutions for connectivity
  • Overview current and future broadband policy
  • Create next steps and action items for communities and anchor institutions
