Monroe Street near Campus Martius in 1906 was filled with shops, restaurants, and hotels like the one from which the panorama photos were taken.
Today, there is only one operating business on the street within two blocks of the Old City Hall pictured in the background above. The buildings on the left are all gone, turned into parking lots for the ubiquitous automobile.
