FCC National Broadband Plan

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is charged in the ARRA legislation with the development of a National Broadband Plan by the beginning of next year, 2010. The plan moves forward with the goal of enabling adequate broadband access to every person in America. The plan is part of what the Obama Administration refers to as the Omnibus Broadband Initiative.
Broadband.gov - Website

In an effort to enourage civic participation, the FCC created this interactive website. It allows the public to discuss blog entries, share ideas, stay up-to-date on the latest meetings and chart the progress of the National Broadband Plan.

National Broadband Plan Progress - Website

This website provides the latest updates on the process of developing the National Broadband Plan. It includes data, analysis and video archives of past meetings.

Blogband.gov - Website

To stimulate public dialogue and chronicle the development of the National Broadband Plan, the FCC has created a new blog. "The feedback, ideas, and discussions generated on this blog will be critical in developing the best possible National Broadband Plan," newly-appointed FCC chairman Julius Genachoski wrote in the blog's first post. The blog is updated frequently by various persons working on the plan.

Bringing Broadband to Rural America - 80 page pdf

The Federal Communications Commission delivered this report to Congress on May 22, 2009. In its own language, the report should be read "as a prelude to, and a building block for a National Broadband Plan." The majority of the FCC's consenting opinions delivered here reference or counter Public Comments filed for the Commission. It addresses specific issues and concerns relating to ubiquitous, nation-wide, or Rural broadband access.

FCC Official Notice of Inquiry - 59 page Word document

This document prompts discussion between the public and law makers regarding the development of the National Broadband Plan. It calls for public input on the interpretation and implementation of a number of specific directives ranging from how the FCC should effectively establish goals and benchmarks to mechanisms for ensuring affordability.
