Virtualization with VMwareVirtualization is a proven software technology that is rapidly transforming the IT landscape and fundamentally changing the way that organizations compute. By "virtualizing" IT servers and desktops, Merit Member organizations will significantly reduce hardware costs (servers, desktop computers), lower operational maintenance costs, decrease environmental impact, lower power consumption and reduce your organization's footprint.
MeritLicensing - VMware Program
This program provides eligible organizations in Michigan with the opportunity to purchase the following at discounted rates (from VMware list prices):
- A full suite of VMware software products, including product licenses, support subscrptions, and professional services.
- All new VMware products purchased are paired with VMware Production Level Support (24x7); Production Level Support was previously called
Platinum Level Support. Multi-year support terms are available.
- Customized professional services to aid Merit Members with deployment, including a technical account manager and a VMware Architect to aid institutions in the planning/implementation of the product suite.
- Customer Training Programs.
Merit Membership Options for MeritLicensing- Basic Licensing Membership:
Membership is limited to buying licensing ONLY. The fee for this option is $150 one-time charge (not an annual charge), covering one year or three years depending on the Support and Subscription (SnS) term.
- Full Merit Membership
Full membership benefits include Member rates for Professional Learning events, MJTS meeting invitations, Merit exclusive email lists, Merit Advisory Council representation, and more. One-time fee of $150, plus an additional $600 per year.
Organizations that are part of a consortium or an ISD can purchase licenses under the consortium or ISD without paying a membership fee if the ISD or consortium itself purchases a full annual Merit Membership of $750. If you have a question regarding your organization's status with an ISD or consortium, please contact Merit Network.
Support & Subscription RenewalsMerit offers multi-year SnS Service options and will manage the renewal process on the behalf of Merit VMware Licensing Members. Member agrees to pay renewal invoices prior to the end of each SnS term. For budgetary purposes, Merit's price list includes the first year for Production level SnS with each VMware product license.

In an agreement with VMware, Merit Network, Inc. has the unlimited ability to license VMware's industry-leading suite of state-of-the-art virtualization software and technological support services.
Eligible Organizations:
Merit Members in the area of higher education (public universities, private colleges and community colleges), K-12 and intermediate school districts, libraries, Michigan state and local governmental agencies and medical-teaching health care institutions (that receive more than 50% of their funding from education) located in Michigan are eligible to participate.
Non-Merit Members in these categories have the
opportunity to become part of the Merit community and also benefit from this significant discount.
