Announcing BGP Training, August 3-4
July 13, 2009
By Andy Rosenzweig
ANN ARBOR - Merit Network is pleased to host a two-day course on the fundamentals of
BGP, the Border Gateway Protocol. The workshop will be held on Monday
and Tuesday, August 3-4, 2009 at Merit's offices in Ann Arbor.
Registration and complete details are now available at:
http://www.merit.edu/events/archive/specialevents/bgp2009/
BGP is the core routing protocol of the Internet, essential for moving
traffic between networks. It is vital for organizations that maintain
connections to multiple networks. This class will be of great value to
network engineers, particularly those that may be responsible for
managing multi-homed networks.
Registration for attendees from Merit Member organizations is $749.
Attendees from non-profit organizations that are not Merit Members may
attend for $799. Others can register for $849. Registration includes all
training materials, continental breakfast, beverages and snacks.
Class Description
This course provides CCNA-level students with practical, hands-on
experience with the operation and configuration of the Border Gateway
Protocol within a multi-homed campus environment. After a thorough
introduction to the protocol, the role of BGP as an exterior gateway
protocol will be explored by leveraging students' current knowledge of
Interior Routing protocols. Students will learn the most important
configuration concepts to build redundant Internet connectivity to
several ISPs using BGP. Preferred methods of adjusting BGP attributes to
achieve outbound load-balancing and internal stability will also be taught.
Major topics include:- Introduction to the role BGP plays in a multi-homed campus environment
- iBGP and eBGP
- BGP Neighbors
- Autonomous System Paths
- BGP Attributes
- Operation of iBGP
- iBGP Stability
- Fully-Meshed iBGP
- iBGP Loopback Source
- eBGP Multihop
