Merit Network Hosts Seminar to Introduce New Email, VoIP ServicesNovember 6, 2008On November 18, 2008, Merit Network will host a seminar in Ann Arbor to introduce MeritMail and MeritVoice, the company's managed email and VoIP services. Organizations in education, research and non-profit areas are invited to learn why leading institutions have already selected these services. Rob Golden, Merit's Vice President, Research and Development, explains that MeritMail and MeritVoice have been developed to assist Merit's core constituents. "Today's educational organizations are exploring opportunities to outsource critical services to achieve cost economies, avoid capital expenditures, protect against obsolescence, and free up scarce IT resources for other projects. Email and advanced VOIP voice services are among the most intensively studied areas for outsourcing because they provide the opportunity for substantial savings and greatly increased performance." Golden describes MeritMail and MeritVoice as "Near Sourcing" for email and voice services. "We define Near Sourcing as having a service provider you know and can trust--one that places the privacy, integrity and ownership of your information first." Golden notes that MeritMail and MeritVoice also offer free or low cost connectivity for Merit Members, industry-leading pricing, and high levels of service. At the seminar on November 18, current customers, partner organizations and Merit staff will describe the services and the options that are available. They will examine the architecture, features and implementation of MeritMail and MeritVoice, paying special attention to transition planning and support. The seminar will be held on Tuesday, November 18 at the Michigan Information Technology Center (MITC) in Ann Arbor. Breakfast begins at 9:00 a.m., and the program concludes at 3:15 p.m. Lunch will be provided. Admission is complimentary, and registration is required.
