Celebrating its tenth year, the Merit Member Conference is a Merit Member Conference logo two-day seminar on best practices in networking and network-using technology, paired with ample time for interaction between professionals doing high-tech work in Michigan. The conference is especially geared toward Michigan's education and research communities and is open to anyone interested in building leading-edge networks and using them in education, research, healthcare, and business applications.

Featured speakers include:
  • Bill St. Arnaud, chief research officer of CANARIE, Inc., the "Internet2 of Canada." St. Arnaud, who blogs regularly on green technologies in computing, will speak on the topic "Saving the Planet at the Speed of Light: How Fiber Networks Can Help Reduce Global Warming."

  • Walter G. Weir, chief information officer for the University of Nebraska, will discuss strategies for educating future IT leaders in portfolio management and project management.

The conference will also include over 20 breakout presentations and roundtable discussions in two tracks--Technology and Policy & Education--providing information on key topics including virtual learning, network security, fiber-optic networking, VoIP, mass notification systems, server virtualization and videoconferencing.
