Network Resources & SupportMerit Network has continuously managed educational networks for more than 30 years. Since its dedication in 1973, the initial network has grown in scope and complexity. In 1983, Merit created its first Network Operations Center (NOC) to focus exclusively on managing the demanding needs of a research network.
For over 24 years, the NOC's highly-trained operators have been monitoring
high-performance networks and devices on a 24 X 7 X 365 basis.
In 2010, the NOC was renamed as the Merit Support Center (MSC) to reflect the changing requirements of
network and services monitoring.
Each MSC operator is a certified technician, capable of providing both Tier 1 and Tier 2 support. Thus, troubleshooting begins immediately and most issues are resolved by the person initially answering
the phone. In addition, each network attachment is proactively monitored using Spectrum to promptly identify issues and generate alerts.
Merit's first guiding principle is to "Develop and Maintain an Advanced Network" with a strong focus on providing a robust production network. The Merit Support Center is dedicated to ensuring the fulfillment of that principle.
