[OpenCALEA] ANNOUNCE: opencalea-lite

  • From: Manish Karir

All,

I wanted to drop a quick note to the list to let everyone know that we have
just released opencalea-lite. This is a complete overhaul and rewrite
of the original opencalea software. It takes a step back and focuses on
stabilizing and improving the basic calea functions of tap, controller and
collector. The re-write is much cleaner even though it preserves the original
opencalea architecture.

To use calea-lite, you must first set up a controller. The controller is a central
server that can control an unlimited (within reason) number of taps. Each tap "belongs"
to a controller. Each instance of the tap program can only "belong" to one controller,
but is capable of running many packettaps.
The same physical tap device may run multiple
instances of the tap program, if they wish to be controlled by more than one control
server, although care should be taken not to overwhelm the tap machine, as the two
tap processes will have no knowledge of each other. Finally, a listener/collector must also
be set up. Every tap may have its own listener/collector.

You can download the new code from:
http://www.opencalea.org/ocl.php
Note the license for opencalea-lite GPLv2.

Questions, comments, or bug-reports are all welcome.

thanks
-manish
