The problem is the collector program (no authentication with the
controller) .. anyone using it in it's current form would need to
understand that (eg. sounds like Manish/Merit plans on using it on a
private, specific purpose network .. they understand that it's not fit
for public access). You could ssh to machines to start/stop/monitor the
tap processes though, at least for the short term. And perhaps the
issue will get addressed sooner rather than later (though a different
control system design altogether could be the long term "fix").
