Subject: [ISN] ISTS Gap Analysis Report

Forwarded from: Kevin O'Shea <koshea@ists.dartmouth.edu>

The Technical Analysis Group is pleased to announce the release of a new
study titled "Law Enforcement Tools and Technologies for Investigating Cyber
Attacks: Gap Analysis Report." The Gap Analysis Report is the second in a
series of reports serving as the foundation for a national research and
development agenda for cyber attack investigative tools and technologies.

The first report in the series "Law Enforcement Tools and Technologies for
Investigating Cyber Attacks: A National Needs Assessment" provided a
comprehensive look at the problems and technological impediments facing
federal, state, and local law enforcement when investigating and responding
to cyber attacks.

The Gap Analysis Report is an interim report detailing our research efforts
to identify available solutions that address the requirements outlined in
the National Needs Assessment. These solutions were categorized and the Gap
Analysis Report was produced to demonstrate critical areas, or "gaps", where
scientific research may be initiated.

The Gap Analysis Report is available for download from the following
hyperlink:

http://www.ists.dartmouth.edu/TAG/gap_analysis.htm   The final report in
this series, "Law Enforcement Tools and Technologies for Investigating Cyber
Attacks: A National Research and Development Agenda", provides a prioritized
list of law enforcement needs, with analyses, that may be addressed through
research and development.

If you would like to have a member of the Technical Analysis Group present
"Law Enforcement Tools and Technologies for Investigating Cyber Attacks: Gap
Analysis Report" to your organization, or if you have questions or comments,
please feel free to contact me.
