BGP confrederation ->Hierarchical RR migration

Hi everybody,
Does someone have experience with migrating an AS from a confederation-topology to a topology with hierachical route-reflectors ?
E.g. the BGP process on a router has to be killed in order to change from 65xxx to 'real AS-num'.
