> Randy's view was that he had the right not to be photographed
close but no doughnut. i never asserted a right as i am not a
lawyer and am very careful not to play one on the net. for the nth
time (n-1 were on the sc list), i only asked that, _if_ i (and
others) had such a right, that merit not give the press blanket
permission thereby bypassing that right.
as neither merit nor the sc had the time or resources in the narrow
window before the meeting, merit chose a conservative course [0]
and, _for_ _this_ _one_ _meeting_, asked that no pictures be taken
in the meeting rooms, but said that they would be fine in the halls
or any other settings.
though no one had asked for such a conservative position, it seemed
reasonable given the rushed and under-informed conditions. so the
sc, including you, agreed.
of course various sc members had various qualms, a major one for me
being that this restricted ren's photo service. i believe i herd
from ren at the open session and in private conversation that she
normally takes her pictures in the hall anyway.
going forward, merit has said that they will be checking with
counsel, though staffing issues may not bring this to the top of
their stack for a while. i happened to have the opportunity to do
so. you have seen my report on that advice. maybe you have read
it.
as i concluded, the horse would seem to be dead. but if you want
to spend your time flying a charter amendment to ban pictures, go
for it. i don't have that kind of time to push rocks uphill.

o Press and Photographs
Press may be present in San Jose. MERIT may prominently tag
their badges.
MERIT will ask that no pictures be taken in the actual meetings
themselves. This ensures that members are free from having
their picture published without their consent and without
prejudice as to who is taking the pictures.
