secure ftp/mail

I'm just asking around to see what I can find out. We are doing some
web based applications using https and a Verisign Digital Certificate on
our Netscape web server (Sun Ultra2, Solaris 2.5.1)- our "standard" is
"we put no business data on the net unless its encrypted". The thing is
people keep wanting to send data via e-mail or ftp, many times its a one
shot deal. We have some Virtual Private Network capability via our
Checkpoint Firewall but this usually takes more setup effort than is
warrented. Have any suggestions or maybe some info on what others
are doing?
