Jeff,

I am also concerned after reading the proposed House bill regarding
Internet privacy.  At first reading there does not appear to be any
provisions over business or educational monitoring of appropriate use of
institutional networks.  With students, they are aware we can track the
sites they visit while at our institution, which serves as a powerful
deterrent against attacks on our network.  Also, anyone running a Squid
cache has the ability to track browsing patterns.  With this said, I am
all for preventing ISP's selling personal info. to vendors, but please
don't tie our hands in protecting our networks.
Representative Lingg Brewer appears to be one of the sponsors of the
bill and serves on the Advanced Technology and Computer Development
committee.  I plan to contact their office for further clarification.
