new MichNet NOC

On August 1st MichNet's NOC services will move from the ANS NOC
to the new NOC that is being created and run by the UofM at the
Computing Center building.
 
There will be a new phone number to call for the new NOC, but we are
not giving that number out widely. We do not want to give the
new NOC's phone number out to just anyone. We are giving it to
the offical contacts at the Merit members and affiliates. Calls
from end users should go first to the networking staff or help
desk at the member or affiliate. If necessary the official
contacts at the member or affiliate can call the new MichNet
NOC. Calls from end users will not be accepted by the new NOC.
 
The ANS NOC will not be giving out the phone number of the new
NOC, but they can tell people to call their MichNet Site
Representative to learn the new number (although in theory if
they are someone who should know the new number, they will
already know it and not call the old ANS NOC in the first
place).
 
If you are the official contact for your site and you have
not received the new phone number and if you are caught up on
e-mail sent within the past day, you should first check with
other offical contacts at your site to see if they have the
new number and if that doesn't help you should call your MichNet
site representative to check. If your site representative isn't
in ask for any member of the MichNet consulting staff. The
Merit phone number is 313-764-9430.
