Jackson Community College

Some of you may remember from a previous message that Jackson
Community College received an NSF Connections Program grant to
upgrade from a 9.6Kbps connection via an SCP to a 56K
connection via a router. That upgrade was done some time ago.
More recently the dial-in serive from JCC was upgraded from
2400 bps to 9600 bps (v.32 with v.42/MNP4, no Xon/Xoff flow control)
and four more phone lines were added for a total of 8. The lead
phone number remains the same and as a result of the upgrade we
no longer support 300 bps dial-in from Jackson.
The new modems like all the modems we are using now are
v.32bis/v.42bis, so we'll be able to move to higher data rates
when the Jackson dial-in is moved from the SCP to a NAS
sometime next spring. The Jackson modems are U.S. Robotics
Total Control that include remote management.
Merit and JCC shared the costs associated with this upgrade. My
thanks to the folks at JCC and in particular to Mark Harris for
making this upgrade possible.
