new 800 rates and WDC dial-in

  • From: Jeff.Ogden
  • Date: Wed Oct 13 08:13:29 1993

The new, lower 800 dial-in rates for calls to MichNet from SprintNet
and the new 800 dial-in rates for calls to MichNet from Autonet
will go into effect this Friday Oct 15 between 6 and 6:30 am.

The new Washington, D.C. dial-in phone number will become available
at about this same time (actually its available now, but we are not
billing people for the network surcharge yet). We haven't set a
date for removing the old Washington, D.C. numbers yet, but
we will try to do this quickly (two or three weeks) since we
don't want to pay for the two sets of lines any longer than we
have to. There will be a voice recording on the old numbers
giving the new numbers for several months.

The new phone number in DC is: 202-7785-9001. It supports
v.32 (1200/2400/9600) with MNP4 data correction, but no
data compression and no Xon/Xoff flow control. 300 bps is
no longer supported in DC either.

There is information on the new DC number in the help server
(enter help at Which host) now. We'll add something about the
new 800 rates soon.

  -Jeff
