Re: Shareware Winsock.DLL over EtherPPP over Livingston

Here are the procedures Gale and I used....

Before you start, you need WINPKT.COM (find it through archie and ftp it.)
WINPKT is required, but isn't included in any of the .ZIP files...

Get etherppp.zip from merit.edu in /pub/ppp

Get Peter Tattam's shareware winsock from biochemistry.cwru.edu. NOTE:
THEY RESTRICT ANONYMOUS FTP ACCESS SEVERELY DURING BUSINESS HOURS. Use
a gopher client pointed at biochemistry.cwru.edu 70 or do the ftp during
off hours.

Get at least one WINSOCK compliant application. All released WINSOCK
apps are at sunsite.unc.edu. The beta release of WinTrumpet for reading
usenet news is at biochemistry.cwru.edu.

Start EtherPPPat packet interrupt 0x61 instead of the usual 0x60.
EtherPPP dialed for me after I edited CONFIG.PPP and DIAL.PPP
for the right phone number. I had to use the "/d script" option.

As it says in the WINSOCK documentation, load WINPKT.COM with the
following command:
  WINPKT 0x61 0x60

Start Windows and follow the docs for Peter Tattam's WINSOCK. Even
though it says you'll have to reboot the machine (which worried me
since I had to type in my IP address by hand and it was dynamically
assigned) you don't really have to. It works.
