Merit/MichNet's Washington, D.C. dial-in phone number to change
Sometime in mid-July the Merit/MichNet Washington, D.C. dial-in
phone numbers will change. The DC dial-in node is being moved
to a new location where it will share a 1.5Mbps (T1) link to
the Internet rather than the current 9.6Kbps leased line back
to Ann Arbor that it uses today. This will improve response for
DC dial-in users and will reduce costs for Merit.
After the change is complete there will be a single hunt
sequence for Washington, D.C. dial-in rather than the two
numbers we currently have. The new number will support
1200/2400/9600 bps. 300 bps dial-in will no longer be supported
from DC. Additional modems are being installed to reduce busy
signals in DC as well.
The new DC number will be 202-785-9001.
A message printed when you dial-in to the old DC numbers will
give the date of the cut over just as soon as we know it.
If you have questions, please send e-mail to info@merit.edu or
call a MichNet consultant at 313-764-9430 M-F between 1 and 5 pm.
