Meeting - Feb 11
- From: John R. Vollbrecht
- Date: Thu Jan 28 15:51:53 1993
After hearing from a few people that they have a problem with meeting on
Feb 11, I checked to see if I could schedule a room for Feb. 4.
Unfortunately there were no rooms available that day, So the meeting
will be held on Feb. 11. I will try to arrange the agenda to accomodate
any special requirements of people that can only be there part of the
time. Let me know. I am truly sorry for the screw up and I will try to
keep track of my notes better next time.
As a tentative agenda proposal I would like to take the morning for a
number of general topics -
Backbone status
New Sites
National Networking
- backup to NSF via CICnet
- CIDR address assignments
- Next steps with NSFnet
Packet Video
and in the afternoon I would like to focus on NAS requirements. I would
like to have some different groups give presentation on what the
requirements for their campus are, or about specific projects that are
ongoing. I would appreciate any volunteers. I will call a few people
specifically if I don't hear from enough.
I would like to try to push this discussion to a point where we have
a coherent overview of how the NAS will fit in with MichNet member and
affiliate plans.
Specifically
- how will authentication/authorization/accounting be done
in a distributed way? Will each member/affiliate provide AAA servers,
will MichNet also provide this - as backup or for those that can't run
their own server?
what interfaces need to be common? Is an IP/PPP common interface
sufficient? Do we want/need for dumb terminal interfaces to also be the
same?
who gets to use the interfaces? How do we finance dial ports accross
the state?
should we require/allow Novell/Apple/Banyan --- access at the same
ports?
Is this for direct connect ports as well as dial up.
Do we want to include dial on demand routers in this discussion?
-------
Please feel free to comment/start discussion before the meeting.
I will send out a more complete agenda next week.
Sorry again for the inconvenience I caused by getting the dates mixed
up.
- John
