If you want the boxen to be fault tolerant, you could put them behind a
L4 switch/SLB and let them both answer requests as they come in,
including sharing the responsibility of the email. The only think you'd
have to do is if you wanted real time mirroring of the database, you'd
have to store the DB on a third box and get the two IRRD boxen to share
the DB via NFS or something.
Storing the DB on one of the two IRRD machines and sharing it with the
other breaks your redundant architecture and is a SPOF.
