Creating a Backup IRRD Box

What is the best way to accomplish keeping two IRRD
boxes in sync? I have a primary and a backup machine
in different locations.
One choice could be sending the email updates to both
boxes and just have the primary box respond and have
the secondary box operate in "silent" mode somehow.
Another choice would be to somehow use the irrd
mirroring software to update the secondary box.
Is anyone currently maintaining two irrd server
machines in this way?
