Clarification on IRRD

  • From: Tay Chee Yong
  • Date: Thu Mar 07 01:32:44 2002

Hi,

I had downloaded the database to the irr_directory, but when I perform a sh mirror-status radb, it gives the following:

jupiter IRRd# show mirror-status radb
radb (Mirror)

Local Information:
Oldest journal serial number: 98051
Current serial number: 0

Remote Information:
Mirror host: 198.108.0.18:43
Mirrorable.
Oldest journal serial number: 93061.
Current serial number: 98452.
*WARNING* Remote oldest journal > our CURRENTSERIAL.
*WARNING* Mirroring will fail. Please reseed your database.

I had downloaded the RADB database from whois.radb.net itself, but why can't it synchronize with my local database?

I have my irrd running

jupiter-pts/11:~>ps -ef | grep irrd
root 28529 1 0 12:44 ? 00:00:00 irrd
root 28533 28529 0 12:44 ? 00:00:00 irrd
root 28534 28533 0 12:44 ? 00:00:00 irrd
root 23969 25138 0 14:18 pts/1 00:00:00 telnet 127.0.0.1 irrd
root 23970 28533 0 14:18 ? 00:00:00 irrd
tcy 26468 23972 0 14:23 pts/11 00:00:00 grep irrd

I also have my configuration file ready :

jupiter-pts/11:/etc>cat irrd.conf
#####################################################################
# MRTd -- MRT version 2.1.3 [10/18/2001]
#####################################################################
#
debug all /tmp/mrt.log 0
#

!
irr_port 43 [ access 0 ]
!
irr_max_connections 25
!
irr_mirror_interval 600
irr_database radb mirror_host 198.108.0.18 43
irr_database radb clean 172800

irr_database ripe clean 172800
!
db_admin tcy@pacific.net.sg
irr_server whois.radb.net

I also had the initial copies of the databases:

jupiter-pts/11:/var/tmp>ls -l
total 53444
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5 Mar 7 12:18 RADB.CURRENTSERIAL
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 26780767 Mar 7 12:19 radb.db
-rwxr-xr-- 1 root root 283209 Mar 6 10:32 radb.JOURNAL
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 7 Mar 7 12:18 RIPE.CURRENTSERIAL
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 21986932 Mar 7 12:18 ripe.db
-rwxr-xr-- 1 root root 5582636 Mar 6 10:33 ripe.JOURNAL

What am I missing??

There is one thing which I am quite puzzled about. After the first attempt to start irrd, I had create the necessary configuration file (/etc/irrd.conf), but when I did a "kill -9 <irrd process id>" and try to restart the irrd process, irrd refuse to startup, until I delete the irrd.conf. Then I can start irrd again, but I need to re-create the entire configuration file again.

My host information is as follows:

Linux 2.4.2-2smp #1 SMP Sun Apr 8 20:21:34 EDT 2001 i686 unknown

Hope to receive some valuable advise from the experts out there.
Thanks.

Regards,
Cheeyong
