Learn
the Essentials of DNS, BIND and DNSSEC
Merit
is pleased to host two classes led by the Internet Systems
Consortium (ISC) in Ann Arbor this October. ISC is a non-profit
organization that had a foundational role in the
development of DNS; today ISC continues to lead the
development of BIND, by far the most commonly used DNS
server application on the Internet.
- Introduction
to DNS and BIND, October 24-25, is a
two-day boot camp on the essentials of DNS and BIND. DNS remains an
essential part of network infrastructure, providing
translation between IP addresses and domain names and
identifying each host by name. Every organization that
provides network services for its users should have at
least one staff person who is well trained on the
principles of DNS and with the operation of BIND.
- Intro
& Advanced DNS and BIND Topics (Including
DNSSEC), October 24-28,
begins with the content of Introduction to DNS and
BIND and adds three days of advanced topics
including private addressing in DNS, use of IN-ADDR,
and cryptography in DNS. The class deals extensively
with Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC),
a set of IETF specifications for securing information
within DNS. DNSSEC allows DNS clients to authenticate
the origin of domain name data, thus improving data
integrity. DNSSEC is gradually being adopted and
deployed by operators of the top-level domains, and
DNSSEC will continue to grow as a standard feature of
DNS deployment.
Merit is pleased
to make these workshops available to Merit Members for 40%
off their standard commercial rates, and to other
non-profits at a 25% discount. Merit Members who attend
both workshops receive an additional $100 discount.
Please note
that DNSSEC Implementation and Deployment Workshop,
previously announced for October 26-28, is no longer
available as a stand-alone class. For DNSSEC training,
please register for Intro & Advanced DNS and BIND
Topics (Including DNSSEC).
Who should attend?
Introduction to
DNS and BIND will be useful for any system
administrator or networking professional who needs a solid
understanding of DNS. It will serve as an excellent primer
for those who have not worked with DNS before, and as an
in-depth review and development opportunity for those with
DNS experience.
Intro &
Advanced DNS and BIND Topics (Including DNSSEC)
is appropriate for networking professionals who need
advanced DNS skills, particularly those who are
considering implementing DNSSEC. It will provide a solid
grounding in DNSSEC and the steps and considerations in
deploying it, plus the fundamentals of other advanced
topics.
