Last week to register for the Merit Member Conference
- From: Merit Network Professional Learning
- Date: Mon Jun 01 14:29:35 2009
This Friday, June 5, is the last day to register for the Merit Member
Conference, coming up next week on June 11-12. Please take a moment
today to register at:
http://www.merit.edu/mmc
If you are still working on a decision, here are ten features of the
conference that will help you make up your mind:
1. FEATURED SPEAKERS
Insights from three original thinkers:
* Richard N. Katz, Vice President, EDUCAUSE, on education
in the age of cloud computing.
* Dale Dougherty, Editor and Publisher of MAKE Magazine,
on the resurgence of interest in the practice of
do-it-yourself technology.
* Brian D. Voss, Vice Chancellor for Information Technology
and Chief Information Officer, Louisiana State University,
on LSU's approach to IT governance and management.
Complete details about these speakers is at:
http://www.merit.edu/events/mmc/speakers.php
2. PRE-CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS
On Wednesday, June 10, choose from three, three-hour interactive
workshops on IP video surveillance, medianet architecture, and
cutting-edge uses of technology in libraries. This is a great
opportunity to expand your knowledge in these areas. Registration for
these workshops is separate from conference registration, and will
remain open until noon on June 9.

3. BREAKOUT SESSIONS
The conference agenda will feature close to 40 presentations and
discussions on highly relevant current issues in networking, computing,
policy and education.

4. MERIT SERVICES TRACK
Merit staff members and users from within the Merit membership will
present an ongoing track with information about Merit services, both
existing and in development. This is an opportunity to learn more and to
give input to help shape future services.
5. SPONSOR TRACK
As a new feature this year, eight Featured Sponsor companies will speak
about their products and services and the state of the technologies they
work with.
6. SECOND ANNUAL MERIT AWARDS
On Friday after lunch, catch the second annual presentation of the Merit
Awards, created to recognize organizations and individuals for their
work in networking and information technology, community building, and
service to Merit's Membership.
7. MITE FORUM GATHERING
The Michigan Information Technology Executives (MITE) Forum is a
community of practice for IT executives, hosted by Merit. The MITE Forum
will gather as part of the Friday morning breakout sessions; anyone in
an executive role is invited to participate in the group's roundtable
discussions.
8. SPONSOR RECEPTION
On Thursday evening from 5:00-7:00, enjoy getting together with your
fellow conference attendees for appetizers and drinks, and learn about
the services available from the MMC's sponsors. Plus: drawings for
valuable tech prizes throughout the reception.

9. THURSDAY EVENING GET-TOGETHERS
After the reception on Thursday evening, you're invited to get together
informally with attendees and Merit staff to enjoy dinner or other
activities in the Ann Arbor area. Instead of heading home at 7:00, think
about joining with others for a spontaneous outing.
10. SURPRISES
We're reserving a few special announcements for June 11 and 12.
The list could continue, but this gives you a sense of the scope of
activities that are planned. And the conference is a bargain:
registration for attendees from Merit Member organizations is $189, and
persons not affiliated with a Merit Member organization are welcome to
attend for $229. Registration for Thursday only is $139; Friday-only
registration is $90.
Make sure you don't miss out. Complete information and registration are
