Michigan, providing an added opportunity to save on travel.

Following are brief descriptions with links to registration and more
information.

**************************

SANS Institute's Web Application Security Essentials

This three-day hands-on course covers defensive strategies for
protecting Web applications against current and future attacks. The
course will help you understand the fundamental reasons behind the Web
vulnerabilities, which will then enable you to properly defend your
organization's Web assets. The key security problem areas of Web
applications will be covered, as well as new technology areas such as
AJAX and Web Services.

To maximize the benefit for a wider range of audiences, the discussions
in this course will be programming language agnostic. This course is
intended for anyone tasked with implementing secure Web applications,
including application security analysts, developers, application
architects, penetration testers and infrastructure security professionals.

In this innovative presentation, the course will be delivered by a SANS
instructor via interactive teleconference to several participating sites
across the U.S.

The registration fee for attendees from educational institutions and
state and local governments is $995, a savings of over 60% compared to
the standard price of $2,764 when delivered in a classroom setting. In
accordance with the SANS Institute's policies, the reduced price is
available only to attendees from educational institutions and state and
local governments. Others may attend for the retail price of $2,764.

Complete information and registration are available at:

PacketShaper Level I and Level II

Packeteer's PacketShaper is a popular platform for optimizing WAN
application performance in enterprise networks. Many organizations use
PacketShaper to help monitor their networks, shape traffic and apply
policy-based QoS control, and accelerate and compress applications for
maximum performance.

These courses, 2-1/2 days each, will involve a mixture of lecture and
hands-on work, with one PacketShaper device per two students and
extensive training materials provided. Class size is limited to 12
students per session. Attendees must bring a laptop computer.

Attendees may register for either or both of the sessions. Pricing for
individuals from Merit Member organizations is $1295 for one session or
$2455 for both. Individuals not from Merit Member organizations may
attend for the typical retail prices of $1725 apiece or $3280 for both.

Merit Network is pleased to host "JNCIA-M Certification Bootcamp," an
intensive 5-day course that prepares students for the Juniper Networks
Certified Internet Associate exam. This course will be taught during the
week of March 9-13, 2009, at the Michigan Information Technology Center
in Ann Arbor.

Registration and a full course description are now available at:

  http://www.merit.edu/events/juniper2

The Bootcamp is an excellent development opportunity for network
professionals who are new to the Juniper OS. Students should be familiar
with basic networking, routing, and TCP/IP concepts. This class assumes
students are proficient in IP subnetting.

During the week, students will be presented with individual topics and
problems to solve including the JUNOS software CLI, RIP, OSPF, IS-IS,
BGP, MPLS, firewalls, and routing policy. Each topic is explained in
detail and students practice their skills using live routers and through
numerous practice mini-exams. The boot camp is approximately 80% lecture
and 20% hands-on lab. Class size is taught with one router per two
students, and class size is limited to 16.

On the final day of the course, students are presented with a review and
a complete practice exam that closely simulates the actual JNCIA testing
environment. All students receive a free certification exam voucher good
for the JNCIA-M exam and three JNCIA-M written practice exams at the
conclusion of class. The Bootcamp is taught by Proteus Networks, a
Juniper training partner and the only organization in the U.S. providing
the course in this format.

Pricing and registration
------------------------
This course is available to Merit Member organizations for $2400 per
attendee; to other educational and non-profit organizations for $2950
