Packeteer PacketShaper training available in January

Merit Network is pleased to host a presentation of PacketShaper Level I
and Level II training for network administrators. These 2-1/2 day
courses will be taught during the week of January 19, 2009, at the
Michigan Information Technology Center in Ann Arbor.
Packeteer's PacketShaper is a popular platform for optimizing WAN
application performance in enterprise networks. Many organizations use
PacketShaper to help monitor their networks, shape traffic and apply
policy-based QoS control, and accelerate and compress applications for
maximum performance. Full course descriptions appear later in this message.
The training courses will be delivered by VistaOne Corporation, one of
only fifteen Packeteer authorized training centers in the world. The
courses will involve a mixture of lecture and hands-on work, with one
PacketShaper device per two students and extensive training materials
provided. Class size is limited to 12 students per session. Attendees
must bring a laptop computer.
These courses are seldom if ever taught in Michigan; typically travel to
Atlanta, Cupertino or elsewhere is required to attend a public workshop.
Attendees may register for either or both of the sessions. Pricing for
individuals from Merit Member organizations is as follows:
Level I : $1295
Level II: $1295
Both classes: $2455
Individuals not from Merit Member organizations may attend for the
typical retail prices of $1725 apiece or $3280 for both.

Registration may be canceled up to 5:00 p.m. on January 9 minus a
processing fee of $35.

Details about the courses:
PacketShaper Level I
--------------------
Packeteer designed this curriculum for the network administrator or
infrastructure designer who wants to monitor, control and accelerate
network traffic using the PacketShaper appliance. Upon successful
completion of this course, students will be able to:
* Fully understand the benefits, features and capabilities
of Packeteer's PacketShaper
* Plan a PacketShaper deployment
* Implement a PacketShaper deployment
* Install and configure the PacketShaper
* Configure and Operate the Adaptive Response feature
* Classify network traffic
* Gain visibility into network and application behavior
* Control network traffic
* Compress network traffic
* Maintain the PacketShaper
* Troubleshoot network traffic problems
* Strategically manage network application performance
using the PacketShaper.
PacketShaper Specialist Level I will be presented from 9 a.m. to 5:00
p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, January 19 and 20, and 9:00 a.m. to noon on
Wednesday, January 21, 2009.
PacketShaper Level II: Advanced Traffic Analysis & Troubleshooting
------------------------------------------------------------------
This is an advanced technical training course that focuses on advanced
traffic analysis, and diagnosing/ troubleshooting problems related to:
* Application traffic visibility, control, and acceleration
* Network performance gaps
* Network integrity
* Traffic flow
* PacketShaper hardware
* PacketShaper software and configuration
* PacketShaper capacities, limits, and performance
The course also covers advanced command line operation of Packeteer
devices; advanced visibility, control and acceleration options;
troubleshooting strategies, and the use of diagnostic tools.
Prerequisites: Completion of PacketShaper Specialist Level I course or
equivalent experience.
PacketShaper Specialist Level II will be presented from 1:00 p.m. to
5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on
Thursday and Friday, January 22-23, 2009.
