Announcing Merit 2008-2009 Professional Learning calendar

  • From: Andy Rosenzweig
  • Date: Thu Sep 04 15:22:16 2008

On behalf of Merit Network I'm very pleased to send you the attached calendar of our Professional Learning events for the coming months.

Merit's Professional Learning program comprises a wide range of meetings, seminars, training events, and community gatherings aimed at benefiting Merit's membership. Using networking as a starting point, we provide opportunities for learning and sharing knowledge about the world of technology for education, research, healthcare and other fields. Some events are free of charge and open to Merit Members only; others have a registration fee, always at a reduced price for Merit Member organizations.

Let me point out two sample items on the upcoming calendar:

* "Hands-on Network Security: Practical Tools and Methods"
is a two-day, hands-on course taught by Charles Antonelli
of the University of Michigan. The course is an adaptation of
security training provided to over 100 computer administrators
at U-M over the past three years; we're pleased to help make
this practical course available to other organizations.
The class will be offered twice: Nov. 10-11 of this year
and May 7-8, 2009.

* The Internet2 IPv4 Multicast Workshop, offered Nov. 5-7,
is a chance for a very reasonably priced, hands-on learning
experience in this vital networking technology. Particularly
as video grows on the network, a practical grounding in
multicast is important for network technologists.

You'll note many other events on the attached calendar, including fall and spring MJTS meetings, meetings of the MITE Forum for IT executives, courses on networking technologies, and the annual Merit Member Conference. We are adding new events continually and will send out revised calendars periodically throughout the year.

Professional Learning is a key benefit of your organization's membership in Merit. I hope you will attend the events that will help with your work and make this information available to others in your organization.
