The Difference between Good and Great Programmers is Secure CodeToday, good coding is defined by more than its effectiveness and reliability. Whether or not an application is created with secure code is now an all important test. Institutions of all kinds now require that their development teams demonstrate mastery of secure coding skills and knowledge, often through third-party testing. For programmers and their organizations, this raises the unavoidable question,
"What is meant by secure coding, and where can I learn it?"
"Essential Secure Coding in Java/JEE" presents the skills and knowledge
being measured in third-party assessments as defined in the Essential
Skills for Secure Programmers Using Java/JavaEE. Download the
Essential Skills document (PDF).
Details About the CourseThis course covers the "essential" Java/JEE topics that are relevant to a large number of web application developers. It's not a high level theory course. It's about real programming. In this course you will examine actual code, work with real tools, build applications, and gain confidence in the resources you need for the journey to improving the security of your Java applications.
Rather than teach you a specific set of tools, the course will teach components of secure programming. This involves looking at a particular piece of code, identifying a security flaw, and implementing a fix for that flaw. You will gain a variety of solutions that can be applied to a single problem in different scenarios. The course is full of hands on exercises and concrete examples that you can use to prevent common attacks. You will come away with strong techniques that can be applied to current and future projects.
PrerequisitesYou should have at least one year's experience working with the JEE
framework and should have thorough knowledge of Java language and web
technology.
Laptop requirementStudents are required to have a laptop that has been properly configured
