|
Merit Network is pleased to host a two-day workshop on IP multicast for network professionals, to be held on Monday and Tuesday, February 15-16,
2010, at Merit's offices in Ann Arbor. Multicast is
a vital networking technique for maximizing network resources, particularly in streaming media and IPTV applications.
The workshop covers the concepts of multicasting on an IP network and presents detailed discussion of its design,
operation and configuration.
Register Today!
The workshop, intended for network engineers and other advanced network staff, will delve deeply into multicast and provide
many hands-on labs. Attendees will learn the operation of several multicast protocols including IGMP, PIM, and SSM. Students
will also learn the fundamentals of configuring and operating multicast protocols to achieve efficient delivery of shared audio
and video over a campus infrastructure of routers and switches.
Key Topics- Introduction to multicast concepts
- Multicast address at the network layer and data link layer
- Configuration and operation of IGMP
- Configuration and operation of PIM dense mode
- Configuration and operation of PIM sparse mode
- Concepts of multicast trees - shared and source-based
- Concepts of rendezvous points (RP)
- Concepts of RPF (Reverse Path Forwarding)
- Interaction with Ethernet switches - CGMP and IGMP snooping
- Introduction to SSM (Source Specific Multicasting)
PrerequisitesTo attend this course, students should have a thorough understanding of TCP/IP, routing protocols,
and the configuration of routing protocols on Cisco routers. Students should also understand the
operation of Ethernet switches and be comfortable with the configuration of access lists on Cisco
routers and switches.
About the InstructorThe course is offered in partnership with Computer Data, Inc., a national provider of technical training
and a Cisco Learning Partner. The instructor is Larry Mobley, a networking professional who has developed
and taught courses on IP multicast for network engineers within enterprise organizations
around the world. This course relies on Larry's expertise to quickly and effectively
introduce the students to the best and most practical uses of multicast in today's networks.
Course Cost and RegistrationThe registration fee for attendees from Merit Member organizations is $749. Attendees from non-profit organizations
that are non-Members may attend for $799. Other non-Members may register for $849. Registration includes all training materials,
continental breakfast, beverages and snacks. The event will be held at Merit's offices at 1000
Oakbrook Drive, Suite 200, Ann Arbor, MI 48104.
