Archived Presentation Now AvailableHolocaust survivor, historian and author Gerda Weissmann Klein spoke to
students at the W.K. Kellogg Auditorium in Battle Creek on Monday, April
16, 2007, 11:00 AM EDT. The event was streamed via the Internet and Internet2.
Watch the Windows Media archived webcast.
A dynamic and passionate speaker, Gerda Klein does more than just tell
the story of her struggle and survival during the Holocaust. She
challenges students to "stand up" to the same type of discrimination and
extremism that befell the Jews of Europe.
During the current school year 2006-2007, thousands of K12 students
across Michigan and throughout the United States have been involved in
activities connected to All But My Life.
Many students have interacted with Mrs. Klein via videoconferencing as
part of the "Stand Up, Speak Out, Lend a Hand" program,
http://magpi.org/programs/klein.html, a 60-day service learning
challenge in which students are encouraged "to STAND UP, SPEAK OUT, and
LEND A HAND against extremism and hunger!" The April 16th presentation
was the culmination of these activities.
While 2000 students were on hand in Battle Creek to see and hear
Mrs. Klein, this group represented only a fraction of all students who
wanted to attend.
In response to this need, Merit Network, in collaboration with
Internet2,
Battle Creek Public Schools, Lakeview School District,
Calhoun Intermediate School District, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, and
the Klein Foundation
made the Internet/Internet2 broadcast stream
available free of charge.
