Learn the Fundamentals of BGP
Merit Network is pleased to host a two-day course on the fundamentals of BGP, the Border Gateway Protocol. The workshop will be held Monday and Tuesday, August 3-4, 2009 at Merit's offices in Ann Arbor. The workshop will be of value to network engineers, particularly those that may be responsible for managing multihomed networks.

BGP is the core routing protocol of the Internet, essential for moving traffic between networks and vital for organizations that maintain connections to multiple networks. This course provides CCNA-level students with practical hands-on experience with the operation and configuration of the Border Gateway Protocol within a multihomed campus environment.
After a thorough introduction to the protocol, the role of BGP as an exterior Gateway Protocol will be explored by leveraging students' existing knowledge of Interior Routing protocols. Students will learn the most important configuration concepts to build redundant Internet connectivity to several ISPs using BGP and will learn the preferred methods of adjusting BGP attributes to achieve outbound load-balancing and internal stability. Prerequisites:- CNA or equivalent
- Proficient with Cisco Access Lists and wildcard masks
- Understand concepts of Routing Protocols
- Proficient with operation and configuration of OSPF and EIGRP on Cisco routers
Course cost and registration
The registration fee for attendees from Merit Member organizations is $749. Attendees from non-profit organizations that are not Merit Members may attend for $799. Others may register for $849. Registration includes all training materials, continental breakfast, beverages and snacks.

About the instructor:
This course is offered in partnership with Computer Data, Inc., a national provider of technical training and a Cisco Learning Partner. The course will be instructed by Larry Mobley, CCIE # 9175, an expert in the BGP protocol. Larry has developed and taught courses on BGP for Cisco System Engineers as well for network engineers within enterprise organizations around the world.
