Merit's Mission
Merit's mission is to be a respected leader in developing and providing advanced networking services to the research
and education community. Merit is a trusted source for providing high-quality network infrastructure; initiating and
facilitating collaboration; and providing knowledge and technology transfer through outreach.
Merit will fulfill its mission by pursuing the following activities:
- Develop and Maintain an Advanced Network.
Merit is committed to developing and deploying leading-edge
networks in support of research and education. Merit will provide a leading-edge research and education
network capable of supporting the coexisting needs of experimental research and high-performance, robust
production use.
- Embrace Community.
Merit will develop and support an educational community across Michigan and beyond.
Utilizing leading-edge network services as the foundation, Merit will foster special interest, geographic and
technology-centric communities to support the educational missions of our membership.
- Leverage Advanced Networks.
Merit will provide enabling technologies and maintain outreach programs to promote
adoption of advanced networking as a key component of successful educational missions.
- Resource Collaboration.
Merit will offer shared services and facilitate consortia to increase the capabilities
and maximize the impact of our community's resources.
- Transfer Knowledge.
Merit will be a conduit of relevant and timely knowledge through multiple channels on topics
both of importance to our community and consistent with our core competencies.
- Advance Networking Research.
Merit will foster synergies between network researchers and operational groups
across the educational community to push the boundaries of networking.
